Welcome to a quick wrap up of key items that were discussed at our Council Meeting on Monday 13 April 2026.
1. Submission to ‘The development and expansion of waste to-energy (WtE) infrastructure in Victoria Parliamentary Inquiry‘
The Parliament of Victoria has called for an Inquiry into Waste to Energy Infrastructure, including its impacts on residential communities, cost benefits, how recycling and emissions are managed, and other waste management options.
This gives Council the opportunity to have a say on the issue that is of concern to many members of our community. Council will put forward several recommendations for consideration of the Victorian Government, including refusing to grant approval for the development of the HiQ thermal waste to energy facility in Hume City.
2. Inquiry into use of 3 Kosciuszko Drive Craigieburn
Council has been engaging with the Victorian Government about the potential use of 3 Kosciuszko Drive as a location for St Joseph’s Christian College.
Constraints on building a school at this location were identified following a site tour by Council and the Victorian Government. A preferred site has still not been identified.
3. LGBTQIA+ Advisory Committee 12-month Progress Report
A 12-month trial period review has shown that the LGBTQIA+ Advisory Committee Working Group (established in 2024) is helping Council deliver better services and programs by involving people with lived experience in its decisions.
The committee meets regularly to strengthen LGBTQIA+ inclusion, contribute to key strategic work, and improve community visibility across Hume, and it is recommended the group continues its work with Council.
4. Neighbourhood House Funding
Hume City Council has agreed to increase Council’s cost-of-living support for operating Neighbourhood Houses from $13,055 to $20,000 per Neighbourhood House. This requires an additional funding allocation of $62,505.
