New green bins to start rolling out across Hume this week

Council is preparing residents for the future of waste disposal with the roll-out of new food and garden bins beginning today in Hume’s northern suburbs.
The roll-out will ensure that every household in Hume will have a food and garden bin – or green bin – by July, when they become part of Council’s standard household bin collection service.
The green bin is for food scraps and garden clippings, which can be processed and recycled into compost as part of the circular economy.
Each new bin will be accompanied by a kitchen caddy and an information pack explaining how to get the most out of the food and garden waste service.
New green bins will be collected starting in July. When your new bin arrives, don’t start filling it straight away – bring it onto your property and keep it somewhere safe until a week or two before your first collection day.
More than 42,000 bins will be delivered over the next three months, starting today in Craigieburn, Kalkallo and Mickleham before reaching all of Hume’s suburbs in time for collections to begin in July.

This new service is in line with the State Government's Recycling Victoria Policy which requires all Victorian households to have a food and garden service by 2030.
