Welcome to a quick wrap up of key items that were discussed at our Council Meeting on Monday 24 August 2026.

1. Response to AI and Data Centres Parliamentary Inquiry

Council will send a submission to the Federal Inquiry into Artificial Intelligence and data centres

It is recommended the submission includes stronger provisions for culturally appropriate community consultation as well as a ‘local employment priority’ and ‘local community infrastructure fund’, requires transparency about the type and use of data centres to community, expands the moratorium nationally pending relevant State and Territory inquiries, and includes specific local examples and experiences of data centre development and proposals to the inquiry.

2. 88-90 Brook Street, Sunbury - Development of the Land for Multiple Dwellings

Following consideration of the application on its merits and the objections received, Council has resolved to issue a Notice of Refusal to Grant a Planning Permit for the development of the land for multiple dwellings at 88-90 Brook Street, Sunbury.

3. Response to the renaming of Tullamarine Community Hall

Council has approved the renaming of the Tullamarine Community Hall to the Tullamarine War Memorial Hall.

Necessary signage and marketing updates will be undertaken to ensure the community is informed of these changes.

4. Somerton Rd Duplication Notice of Motion

Council will write to the Liberal and Labor Party Ministers for Roads and Road Safety seeking a commitment in the 2027–28 Victorian State Budget to fund and deliver the duplication of Somerton Road between Roxburgh Park Drive and Mickleham Road, as well as an indication of when works will commence, and completion timeline.

5. Dumped Rubbish Woodlands Park Notice of Motion

In an effort to address illegal dumping in the area, Council will write to the Victorian Government asking for an extension of the boundary of Woodlands Historic Park to the outer perimeter of Oaklands Road, to provide greater protection and management of the land.

Council will also request Victorian Government action to address illegal dumping and inappropriate vehicle access along the informal service road adjoining Oaklands Road, including consideration of fencing, barriers, signage, surveillance and other appropriate measures.
