Fawkner Street Village

Project summary

We're upgrading the Fawkner Street Village precinct in Westmeadows. The upgrade is being delivered in partnership with the Victorian Government and construction is being delivered in two phases, to minimise disruption to businesses, traffic and bus users.

What we are doing

The upgrade will enhance the streetscape and deliver a safer, more accessible village centre with: 

  • new feature paving and lighting
  • upgraded street furniture and bus shelters
  • improved garden beds and landscaping
  • better acessibility and safety for pedestrians and bus users
  • a revised one-way service road to improve traffic flow.

Construction works commenced in November 2025 and are expected to be completed in early 2026.

When will it be completed

Phase 1 (complete): Southern bus stop area along Fawkner Street (construction between November and December 2025)

Most Phase 1 works are now complete. This includes:

  • a refurbished bus stop on the southern side of Fawkner Street
  • new bluestone kerb and channel
  • paving upgrades
  • improved stormwater pits
  • accessible bluestone pedestrian crossings

The bus stop is currently operating under a temporary arrangement while finishing works continue.

Phase 2: Northern bus stop area along Fawkner Street (construction between January and February 2026)

Phase 2 works are now underway and include:

  • a refurbished bus stop and new footpath on the northern end of Fawkner Street
  • two additional accessible pedestrian crossings
  • re-laid bluestone kerb and channel and paving
  • new street furniture with integrated lighting, updated bins and bollards
  • new garden beds and planting

While these works are taking place, there are minor changes to how you access the northern bus stop. Buses continue to operate as normal, and no detours are required.
