We’re upgrading Aitken Boulevard from Donnybrook Road to Mt Ridley Road

The Aitken Boulevard Extension project has been in planning to support our growing community since the mid 1990s. We’re pleased to announce that this project is now in stage one of its delivery phase, set to be completed in September 2023.

What we're doing

Stage One:
Donnybrook Road to Eclipse Drive / Merrifield Boulevard
Completion expected February 2023

Stage Two:
Eclipse Drive / Merrifield Boulevard
Commencing Mid September 2022 

Stage Three:
Merrifield South to Mt Ridley Road 
Commencing Mid September 2022

Why we're doing it

The extension project involves works from Donnybrook Road to Mt Ridley Road, and will allow drivers, cyclists and residents to enjoy: 

  • Improved connectivity between Mickleham and Craigieburn, including facilities in Craigieburn and Merrifield Town Centre, Craigieburn Train Station, and Merrifield Business Park.
  • Reduced travel time and congestion along Hume Freeway, Forrest Red Gum Drive, Mickleham Road, and at the Donnybrook Road interchange with Hume Freeway.
  • Access to the new business park, south of Donnybrook Road.
  • Opportunity for a new bus service for Merrifield residents. 

When it will be completed

Construction will be complete September 2023
