What we are doing 

Council is reconstructing Hudson Circuit between Malmsbury Drive and Papworth Place in Meadow Heights. The works will renew the road pavement, improve drainage and upgrade associated road and pedestrian infrastructure.

The works will include:

  • full-depth pavement reconstruction
  • kerb and channel reconstruction
  • drainage upgrades, including new drainage infrastructure where required
  • reinstatement of vehicle crossovers and footpaths where required
  • two wombat crossings with associated traffic islands and pedestrian refuges
  • lighting assessment and upgrade if required near wombat crossing areas
  • signage, line marking, landscaping and final clean-up works.

Why are we doing these works? 

The existing pavement is not adequate for current traffic volumes and sections of the road are showing signs of failure, including crocodile cracking. Drainage improvements are also required, particularly in areas where existing drainage infrastructure is limited.

The project will improve road safety and function, support pedestrian connectivity, reduce ongoing maintenance requirements and provide a better outcome for residents, road users and the local community.

When will works commence? 

Site establishment and pre-commencement activities will occur before construction starts. Staged road reconstruction works are programmed to commence from the end of October 2026, with project completion programmed for the end of April 2027 (weather permitting).

The community may experience temporary impacts during construction, including changed traffic conditions, pedestrian diversions, noise and occasional access delays.

Council will take measures to keep impacts to a minimum, maintain local access wherever possible, and keep the community informed through notifications and consultation during the works. 

Partnerships

The project includes funding through the Department of Transport and Planning’s Safe Local Roads and Streets Program for two wombat crossings along Hudson Circuit.

Council will also coordinate with relevant stakeholders including service authorities, Public Transport Victoria and bus operators as required.
