Getting to the Airport

Living in Hume means a quick commute and access to Melbourne Airport. But, what’s the best way to get to and from the airport? There are many options to help make that connection easier.

Bus services

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to get to the airport is by public transportation.

  • Route 901 SmartBus runs between Frankston and Melbourne Airport, with stops in Broadmeadows, Coolaroo, Dallas, Roxburgh Park, Somerton, Meadow Heights, Westmeadows and Gladstone Park.
  • Buses run every 15 minutes until 9pm weekdays and every 30 minutes on weekends and evenings until midnight (9pm on Sundays).
  • Route 901 is a myki-ticketed service.

Taxis and rideshare

Taxis and rideshare services are available in Hume and at the airport. 

  • Melbourne Airport has clearly marked pick-up and drop-off areas near each terminal. 
  • Accessible taxis are also available.

Car drop-off zones

You can drop someone off at the airport using the dedicated drop-off areas: 

  • Terminals 1, 2, and 3: Use Departure Drive. You can stop for one minute only. 
  • Terminal 4: Use the drop-off zone via Airport Drive. 
  • Accessible drop-off areas are available at each terminal. 

Please do not park or leave your vehicle unattended in drop-off zones.

Car rentals

If you need to hire a car: 

  • Car rental desks are on the ground floor of the Melbourne Airport car park across from Terminals 1, 2 and 3. 
  • Car pick-up and returns happen in the nearby car rental zone. 
  • Companies include Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, SIXT and Thrifty.
