An Australian Spectrum - Ray Rattenbury

O'Rourke's shack.jpg

A Sunbury resident for almost 40 years, Ray Rattenbury has built an expansive creative career that has successfully encompassed graphic design, teaching and creating artwork for over 30 years.

Whilst always having an ability to draw, Ray took up a serious interest in painting, particularly with watercolour, when he joined the Sunbury Art Society in 2010 and remained a member until 2018. Ray’s paintings cover a diverse range of styles and have been added to overseas collections in Canada, England, Ireland and New Zealand. He has been teaching art classes across Hume and the Macedon Ranges, for both adults and children since 2012.

Teaching and exhibiting his artworks allows Ray to continue to develop as an observer, an artist and a lifelong learner. The works on display demonstrate an overview of Ray’s interest in capturing Australian settings through watercolour, his ability to capture qualities of light and atmosphere specific to the landscape and colours evocative of the native flora and fauna.
