2023 Successful Grant Recipients

Hume City Council is pleased to offer the following groups Annual Community Grants for projects in 2023. Offers are based on satisfactory acquittal of any previous grants, and the meeting of all eligibility requirements.

Partnership

Partnership Grants are for projects that clearly address a significant need and embrace the principles of social justice, healthy living, lifelong learning, environmental sustainability, community safety and inclusion. Grants are up to $10,000 per year for up to three years.

Newly announced funding:

  • Attwood House Community Centre - $10,000 per year for three years

The design and construction of an Westmeadows Indigenous Food Fiber and Medicine Garden Gathering Table.

  • Distinctive Options - $10,000 per year for three years

A bush tucker garden maintained for the Sunbury community by people with disabilities. An all-inclusive garden where the community celebrates Australian native plants and food.

  • SisterWorks Inc. - $10,000 per year for three years

Mobile Hub providing training workshops and classes to migrant, refugee and asylum seeking women to become economically empowered.

  • STEM Sisters - $10,000 per year for three years

Dress to Impress aims to empower CALD women to regain their confidence whilst contributing to environmental sustainability through swapping clothes.

  • Sunbury Winter Night Shelter - $10,000 per year for three years

Refuge for homeless people where they find meals, companionship, aide and a place to sleep over winter months.

  • The Water Well Project - $9,880 for one year

Provide 8-10 free, interactive health education sessions for communities from migrant, refugee, and asylum seeker backgrounds.

  • Waves of Wellness Foundation Ltd - $9,984 per year for three years

8-week surf therapy programs for people at risk or experiencing mental health challenges in the community.

  • Youth Projects - $10,000 per year for three years

Provision of fresh, healthy food to disadvantaged Hume youth who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, through assertive community outreach, and associated service linkages.

Specialist Partnership (Reducing Gambling Harm)

The Specialist Partnership Grant (Reducing Gambling Harm) is for new and innovative services, programs and projects to prevent and reduce the harms related to gambling for residents living in Hume. Specialist Partnership grants are for up to $10,000 for up to two years.

This grant is time-limited (2019- 2023) and is funded by contributions from a Craigieburn-based gambling venue. 

  • Settlement Services International $10,000 per year for two years

    Create in-language social media marketing campaigns aimed at increasing uptake of existing gambling harm prevention programs via a workshop and social event with community and religious leaders to kickstarting development of the campaigns.

Project Round One and Two

Project Grants are designed to encourage new ideas, development of locally-led initiatives or projects and collaborations that provide significant benefit to the Hume community. Project Grants are for up to $5,000 for a 12-month period. A second round is run in November each year.

  • Amber Community - $4,640

Drive The Change Program aims to increase awareness of safe driving choices, improve safe driving culture and choices and implement a sustainable model.

  • Craigieburn Nepalese Community - $5,000

Engage Nepalese community through socialization and empowerment activities to address the issues around family violence, mental health and wellbeing.

  • Dallas Neighbourhood House - $5,000

Chatty Café provides an opportunity for lonely and isolated residents to connect and improve their mental health outcomes.

  • Project Respect - $5,000

Pilot project to enhance service connectivity for women in Hume who work in the sex industry. 

  • Roxburgh Park Primary School Community Hub - $5,000

Roxy Cook & Learn Program - weekly cooking and learning empowerment program.

  • St. Annes Primary School - $5,000 

Play program tailored to the needs of children.

  • STEM Catalyst - $5,000

Environmental literacy project that reconnects participants to nature and natural phenomena through hands-on Science and technology.

Round Two 

  • Kids Own Publishing - $4,705

Workshop facilitation to support children and their families to co-create and publish their own books

Community Participation

These grants support groups and organisations to run programs and activities that encourage community participation and involvement, promote leadership, and develop a strong sense of belonging. This includes health and wellbeing projects that improve and encourage active lifestyles. Grants are available up to $3,000 for a 12-month period.

Incentivise women to play in basketball competitions.

Mill and cure reclaimed timber to provide a resource for the Hume Men's Shed programs.

Building volunteer capacity to engage new community members and re-engage families.

Build capacity of refugee mothers by fostering social inclusion, wellbeing, connection with school and access to community services.

Supporting disadvantaged pet owners through free pet support services including pet food and emergency pet boarding for those escaping domestic violence.

Establish events to celebrate dates of significance for Aboriginal people to be celebrated for the community of Sunbury and surrounds.
