Community Gardens
Community Gardens are a space where local people of different ages, backgrounds and abilities are welcome. The community gardens are a space that promotes health, wellbeing, sustainability and friendships allowing people to come together to grow fruit and vegetables.
Become a member
To become a member you first must visit the garden. You can book your visit at Community Gardens - Bookable.
After your visit, you’re welcome to book a garden plot for yourself or your group. Each garden has a limited number of plots, which can be renewed every year.

Our Community Gardens are a member of Community Gardens Australia. We have invited Naomi to speak with community about the opportunity to learn about governance and action in community garden.
Planning a program or activity in the Community Gardens?
Community groups (whether new or existing) must gain permission before running any programs or activities in the gardens, including initiatives like Enviro Champs.
Before applying, please:
- Discuss your proposal with a Community Development Officer
- Consider potential risks and be prepared to complete a Site Inspection Checklist

Garden management
Council supports the planning, development, and management of four community gardens. We support the long-term success of community gardens by:
Providing information and advice
Council provides information, connections, knowledge, and resources to help the community develop, operate, and get involved.
Fostering skills building
Council supports training to build the skills, knowledge and networks of community garden groups and volunteers through a variety of programs and initiatives including the EnviroChamps program and community garden open days.
Identifying partnerships
Council assists with the connection of interested and community members, community groups and businesses with community gardens to activate the spaces.
Supporting funding opportunities
Council shares information on funding and fundraising opportunities to support the sustainability of each of the Community Gardens.
Promoting a safe and inclusive environment
Council facilitates an active and inclusive environment for all. We support diversity within the gardens, by promoting the gardens through multiple communication channels. The community gardens accommodate the needs of people with disabilities.
