Four-week cleaning blitz hits Hume streets

Hume City Council welcomes a four-week cleaning blitz, which sees extra cleaners deployed to the City’s streets and secures short-term employment for locals.

Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Carly Moore said the cleaning blitz is part of the Victorian Government’s $500 million Working for Victoria initiative.

 “You may see cleaning teams around Hume City at local shopping strips, retail districts, parks and open public space areas,” Cr More said.

“The cleaning blitz has a focus on keeping the community safe and is complementing our own cleaning regime in high traffic areas.

“We welcomed the announcement from the Victorian Government, which is providing immediate jobs for residents whose employment has been impacted by COVID-19.”

For seven days a week over the next month, teams are cleaning and disinfecting hard surfaces in areas of high foot traffic areas including:

• Traffic light buttons and poles
• Signs and poles
• Street and park benches
• Handrails and door handles
• External surfaces of rubbish bins in streets and parks
• Bicycle stands or other street furniture
• Exterior of public toilets
