Construction on a major warehouse redevelopment is officially underway, marked by a groundbreaking attended by Mayor of Hume City Council, Cr. Joseph Haweil at the Coolaroo Industry Park on Tuesday 1 August.

The privately funded $41.5 million redevelopment will transform an existing 46,180 sqm warehouse space into three different modern warehousing and office spaces.

Led by ESR Australia and Vaughan Constructions, the redevelopment is set to unlock new opportunities for investment and support continued economic growth in Hume City and the wider Melbourne North region.

The creation of modern industrial and commercial space is predicted to attract new businesses to the area, allow businesses to upgrade from other facilities nearby and act as a catalyst for further redevelopment and investment in other sites nearby.

Among the many economic benefits the project is predicted to bring to Hume, the creation of local employment opportunities across a wide range of blue collar and administrative skill sets is a triumph for our community.

Once complete it is estimated the site comprised of three different warehousing spaces will sustain approximately 385 warehousing jobs, 128 office jobs and 337 indirect jobs that will be supported by the Council’s Economic Development Department’s Local Jobs for Local People Program.

On top of these ongoing opportunities the eleven-month construction phase alone is estimated to support around 230 jobs, complementing the significant boost to employment coming to our region.

The collaboration between ESR Australia, Vaughan Constructions and Council showcases our strong commitment to ongoing innovation, transformation, and investment in Hume City.

Quotes attributable to Mayor of Hume City, Councillor Jospeh Haweil:

“As another chapter in our growing city’s continued economic growth, we trust once this redevelopment is finished the companies that choose to make the Coolaroo Industry Park their home will prosper in Hume.”
