The Hume Youth Action Committee (YAC) presents the Mind-Matters Youth Mental Health Action Summit in October 2023.

The YAC would like to invite young leaders aged between 15-24 from Hume to attend the Mind Matters – Youth Mental Health Action Summit.

The summit will be an excellent opportunity for like-minded and committed young people to network, learn, and share ideas aimed at making a positive impact on mental health in the community. We welcome diverse perspectives and experiences from young people who would like to get involved.

Time: 10am – 5pm

What will we be happening at the Summit?

La Trobe University Innovation and Entrepreneurship will facilitate a ‘hack-a-thon’ style workshop where participants will learn the skills required to develop and present an idea or initiative that will have a positive impact on the mental health of young people in their community. This will include:

  1. Presentation on data regarding mental health of young people in Hume from industry experts.
  2. Work in groups to develop a mental health initiative, idea, or project.
  3. Present and pitch ideas to a panel of decision makers.
  4. The one initiative, idea or project that is selected by the panel, will receive mentoring and coaching from La Trobe University to further develop their idea post the Summit.

What will I get out of the Summit?

  • Gain understanding of mental health concerns for young people that is informed by current research.
  • Share ideas on mental health and wellbeing based on lived experience and involvement in other youth groups.
  • Learn the skills required to frame an issue, brainstorm initiatives, and ultimately pitch an idea to key stakeholders.
  • Gain knowledge about mental health services and how to access these services in Hume.
  • Meet other young people and network.
  • Contribute to social change.  
  • Have fun!

Who is invited?

The YAC would like to invite young people aged between 15-24 who are connected to the City of Hume that are interested in boosting the mental health of other young people in their communities.

Who is organising the Summit?

The Hume Youth Action Committee (YAC) with support from Hume Youth Services have been planning the 2023 Hume Youth Summit. YAC is a committee of young leaders aged 15-20 who identify key issues facing young people and seek to address these through various initiatives, training, and events in the Hume region.

The Hume Youth Action Committee is supported by the Victorian Government.

2022 Hume Youth Summit

Hume Youth Services hosted the Innovate, Initiate, Inspire Youth Summit on Thursday 20 October 2022.  Hume students in Year 9 to Year 12 had the opportunity to learn about youth innovation and entrepreneurship focusing on areas such as skill building, problem-solving, building resilience and youth-driven innovation.

During the event, students from participating schools took part in workshops, heard inspiring stories from guest speakers, and formed connections with one another.

The presenters and organisations who supported the event included, MC Yung Philly, Councillor Sam Misho, Project Rockit, Speak Australia, Unconventional Learning, Youth Projects, HoMie, The Push, Future Minds Network, Emily Unity, Young Change Agents and For Change Co.
