Kindergarten is Free

As part of the Victorian State Governments ongoing commitment to early years, to ensure every child gets the best start in life. Kindergarten is free for all children in both three and four-year-old programs.

Apply for Kindergarten

You are welcome to Apply for Kindergarten or complete an Expression of Interest for a future kindergarten placement for your child.

Step 1.Eligibility

Check eligibility by entering your child's date of birth. The form will indicate whether you apply for kindergarten or express interest.

Step 2.Apply or express interest

If you select Apply for Kindergarten:

  • You will need to complete a separate registration form for each child in your care (e.g. twins).
  • You will be asked to nominate three kindergarten preferences as part of your application. Please choose kindergartens that you would be willing to accept a place at.
  • You are welcome to contact any kindergarten you are interested in to arrange a tour to help you decide what will best suit you and your child.

If you complete an Expression of Interest, you will be kept up to date with kindergarten information and be notified when the application process opens for your child's enrolment year.

What happens after submitting my child’s application?

Offers are made to families based on their selected kindergarten preference from August the year before they start kindergarten. 

Families have ten days to accept or decline an offer. 

If there are no places available at your preferred kindergarten, we will let you know of places available at other kindergartens. You may choose one of them or remain on a holding list.

Important Information

  • Three-year-old and Four-year-old sessions are delivered at 15 hours per week.
  • Children must be three years of age before starting kindergarten.
  • Families are asked to select three locations that you are willing to attend.
  • Updating preferences will not change your initial registration date recorded on the system.
