What we're doing

We're upgrading the sportsground to provide a safer, more reliable playing surface for the community. Works will improve drainage, irrigation and turf quality to support year-round use. The works will include:

  • installation of subsurface drainage to reduce wet areas
  • upgraded irrigation system for better water coverage
  • new turf to enhance surface quality and durability.
  • surface levelling to create a safer, more consistent field.

Why we're doing it

These works are required as Jack Ginifer Reserve previously had no subsurface drainage and has historically become waterlogged following rain events, limiting use and site access. In addition, the existing irrigation system is outdated and no longer provides efficient or reliable coverage, impacting turf health and overall field performance.

What to expect

Construction works are currently underway. The project is due to be completed prior in late August (weather permitting), prior to the 2026/27 cricket season commencing.

Temporary fencing is in place installed around the perimeter of the work area and the reserve is closed throughout the construction period.

Timing

We appreciate your patience as we work on these improvements at Jack Ginifer Reserve.

The project has taken longer than expected due to several challenges on site. The existing soil beneath the field needed to be replaced, the irrigation system had to be redesigned, and additional works were needed around the pavilion to match the new ground levels. Wet weather has also caused delays to construction timing.

Thank you for your understanding as we work to deliver a high-quality and long-lasting outcome for all users.
