Invite the Mayor or Councillors to your event

Hume City Council welcomes invitations to attend community events across our municipality.

The Mayor and Councillors attend a wide range of events including community celebrations, openings, awards and civic functions.

This page explains who to invite, how to submit a request and what to expect when hosting a Council representative.

Who to invite

The Mayor is Council’s primary spokesperson and is usually invited to:

  • official openings
  • major community events
  • civic and ceremonial occasions

If the Mayor is unavailable, the Deputy Mayor or another Councillor may attend on their behalf.

How to invite

To invite the Mayor or a Councillor to your event, please complete the online request form.

Submit your invitation

Our process

  • Complete the online invitation form.
  • Once you submit the form, you will receive a confirmation email.
  • We will aim to respond within 10 business days.
  • We will let you know by email if the Mayor or a Councillor is able to attend your event. 

Requesting a speech

If you would like the Mayor or Councillor to speak:

  • indicate this in your request form
  • provide key details such as audience, purpose and themes
  • allow for additional time before the event.

Hosting a Councillor at your event

Arrange for a host to greet and escort the Mayor or Councillor. Start by introducing them to dignitaries and other organisation leaders, and confirm their role in the event.

Order of introduction

  • Federal MPs (if present)
  • State MPs (if present)
  • Mayor
  • Deputy Mayor
  • Councillor/s.

Formal terms of address 

Mayor: Initially "The Mayor/Deputy Mayor of Hume City Council, Cr 'First Name' 'Last Name'" or "Councillor 'Last Name'", then Cr or Mayor. 

Councillor deputising for the Mayor is "Councillor 'First Name' 'Last Name'’ who is deputising for the Mayor in his/her absence.

After formal introductions, forms of address are at the Mayor’s or Councillor’s discretion. Ask them how they’d like to be addressed.
