As part of the Craigieburn Sports Stadium Masterplan, we've completed important works to increase participation, promote health, wellbeing and social connection.

What we did

We upgraded Craigieburn Sports Stadium in late 2024 to enhance the facility for local sporting clubs, participants and the broader community.

The upgrade included:

  • a new carpark along the side of the stadium near Craigieburn Road
  • three additional multipurpose sports courts
  • new meeting rooms and changeroom facilities
  • remodelling of the entry to include a reception and new café area
  • upgraded internal areas within the facility
  • new landscaping to enhance the surrounding open space and improve the visitor experience
  • upgrades to the stadium entry, including improved access from Craigieburn Road, a new pedestrian pathway to the stadium, additional accessible parking, a dedicated drop-off zone and road safety improvements.

Why we did it

We're committed to providing facilities that enhance opportunities for the community to participate in sport and active recreation and that also provide opportunities for social connection and community engagement.

The courts at Craigieburn Sports Stadium were previously at capacity during peak times, limiting participation opportunities and growth for clubs.

The additional three courts and associated infrastructure will help increase participation and meet the current and future demands for courts in the Craigieburn and surrounding areas.

What's next?

Master Plan and Feasibility Study

We're currently working to establish the future of the Craigieburn Sports Stadium (Stage 2) and the Craigieburn Gardens by developing an overarching master plan and feasibility study to guide future improvements in the area.

The master plan will outline a long-term vision, focusing on visitor experience, community recreation, cultural heritage and the natural environment. It will also consider future needs for indoor sport and leisure, as identified in Council’s Active Living Plan (Volume Two: Indoor Sports and Leisure Plan).

In addition, it will draw on the actions and opportunities outlined in the Hume Open Space Strategy 2025 and the Aitken Creek Parklands Plan, which identify opportunities to enhance Craigieburn Gardens, particularly its waterways and spaces for social recreation.

We’ll be working closely with a wide range of stakeholders including local residents, user groups, schools, sporting clubs, industry representatives and the State Government.

We'll continue to keep the community informed as planning progresses and will share opportunities to have your say as they become available. 

Partnerships

The Craigieburn Sports Stadium Upgrade (Stage 1) was delivered by Hume City Council in partnership with the Victorian Government.
