Transformations and Beginnings: Hume Anthology 2025

The 2025 Hume Youth Anthology was a vibrant celebration of young creativity, showcasing the diverse voices and stories of the Hume community. Centred on the theme “Transformations and Beginnings,” the anthology brought together 112 submissions from 94 local young people, featuring an inspiring mix of stories, poems, and artwork that reflect their unique perspectives and experiences.

Entries were divided into three age categories:

• Prep to Grade 6 (Ages 6–11)
• Year 7 to 12 (Ages 12–18)
• Ages 19–24

The community was invited to vote for their favourite pieces, with several awards presented to recognise creativity, originality, and impact:

• Best Creative Piece (Ages 6–11): Ala’a Alsowaidi
• Best Creative Piece (Ages 12–18): Azelya Cayir
• Best Creative Piece (Ages 19–24): Renee Cherie Dugan
• Community Favourite (All Ages): Aleena Khan
• Mayor’s Choice Award: Raayan Ghandi

As the recipient of the Mayor’s Choice Award, Raayan Ghandi’s work was featured on the front cover of the printed anthology. All award winners also received a $250 art voucher to support their ongoing creative development.

The selected works are currently featured in a four-month exhibition at the Sunbury Gallery within the Hume Global Learning Centre, alongside the printed publication. This inspiring showcase is a wonderful opportunity for the community to celebrate and support the creative talents of young people across Hume.

The 2024 Hume Youth Anthology was a wonderful showcase of young creativity, highlighting the diverse experiences and stories of the Hume community. It brought together 71 submissions from young people, all focused on the theme of Heritage and Diversity. The works cover a range of formats, including stories, poems, and art, providing insight into the unique perspectives of young individuals in the region.

Submissions were divided into three age categories:

The works from the Anthology are currently on display in a 3-month installation at the Gee-Lee Wik Doleen Gallery at the Hume Global Learning Centre in Craigieburn, as well as being included in the printed publication. This event is a great opportunity to celebrate and support the creative talents of young people in the community.
